Teacher Spotlight: Stephanie Deeb

Name: Stephanie Deeb

Grade: 3rd

Your background:

I received my Bachelor’s Degree in English/Minor in Psychology from Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, CT and my Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT.

How long have you been teaching?

My time here at Marvin has been quite the journey! I Interned here at Marvin in 2011, student taught and subbed in 2012, long term subbed in 2013, and was hired as a teacher in 2014. I’ve taught one year in 4th grade and 6 years in third grade.

What do you love about teaching 3rd grade?

The age! The third-grade students are the perfect age for me. They are loving and caring and come in each day with a smile. They are really impressing me this year with their passion for learning to be back at school and their eagerness to learn and use new technology and Google Classroom!

What is your favorite subject or lesson to teach?

My favorite subject to teach is Informational writing. Right now the students are choosing an animal to research and write about. They take notes, complete research online and publish a book on Google Slides. I print them out for them to take home and share with their families. Watching them grow through the process and get excited when I hand them their published book is so rewarding!

Who inspired you to become a teacher?

My kindergarten teacher at St. James school in Stratford, CT , Mrs. Fasold, inspired me to become a teacher. She made learning fun! We had book celebration parties, created lots of fun projects, played with tiles and blocks and she gave us lots of candy as rewards! She was so sweet, kind and made learning fun and I was inspired to be just like her one day!

A fun fact about you!

I live at home with my husband Mr. Deeb, our two year old daughter Olivia, our four year old dog Rutherford and we are expecting baby number two in February! I love to spend time outside exploring, going to the beach, running and playing soccer. I played soccer at CCSU and hope to continue to play after COVID and baby number two!

We know how hard teachers are working in this unprecedented year. What has been your biggest learning this year?

Kids are resilient! I’m so proud of my class every day. It’s been a big learning curve and I couldn’t be more pleased with the way they are handling things! I couldn’t have made it through without the support of everyone here at Marvin. Our administration, faculty, parents, PTA and especially my third grade team - Ms. Cruz, Ms. Johnson and Mrs. Mumbach! Team work makes the dream work!

Thank you, Mrs. Deeb, for ALL you do for our Marvin students!

Why we love Mrs. Deeb!

“Mrs. Deeb taught my son in 3rd grade. He’s in the 8th grade now and still remembers her with a smile! She is positive and patient, and it seems to me that she has a talent for making kids feel valued and heard that sets the stage for learning like nothing else.” – Yvonne Marchese, former Marvin parent (who misses the good old days at Marvin!)

“Mrs. Deeb is wonderful! She gets the kids excited about learning and her enthusiasm and love for the kids shine through. 3rd grade can be a tough academic year, but she is so patient and makes sure the kids “get it”.” - Kathleen Boland, Marvin parent

“Mrs. Deeb’s class was so much fun! I miss 3rd grade. We took some class trips and learned history. Mrs. Deeb always made learning fun, she is always super nice!” - Sydney Boland, former student
